Wistow Women’s Institute
The Wistow branch of the Women’s Institute usually meets on the second Wednesday of the month in the village hall from 7:30 pm until about 10:00 pm.
The Wistow Women’s Institute is a member of the Huntingdon and Peterborough Federation of Women’s Institutes. There are over 8,000 W.I.s spread across the country, mostly in rural areas but also now in small towns and suburbs.
Meetings and Activities
Our monthly meetings have speakers and demonstrations covering a variety of topics and a list for the year is displayed on the village notice boards at the Bus Stop and Village Hall. The monthly competition this year is to bring in the ‘Best Quote’ – serious or humorous. Light refreshments are provided and a raffle is held at each meeting.
We are always pleased to welcome visitors and a member of the committee would be more than happy to accompany you to a meeting.
The Organisation
The largest organisation of its kind for women, the W.I. has been part of UK life since 1915 (the original Institute having been started in Canada in 1897) and now boasts 250,000 UK members. It has its own magazine WI Life, which is delivered to members’ homes 8 times a year, a gift catalogue, and special discounts on tickets to all sorts of interesting places – from fashion shows to stately homes.
The W.I. is also a way to get training in new skills for work or leisure or an opportunity to learn traditional crafts. And the National Federation offers you the chance to campaign on issues important to women both in this country and across the world.
