HDC ‘Be a Councillor’ Event

Scheduled elections for the District Council will take place on 7 May 2026. These elections are also combined with all Town and Parish Council elections in the District.

This event is to encourage residents and those who work in the District to find out what being a local Councillor entails. There will be presentations by the Chief Executive, Executive Leader and other Officers addressing attendees on matters including how the Council works, how decisions are taken, importance of the Code of Conduct. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to get further advice on the election/nomination process and other support available to councillors.

The event is designed not to be a political event, but representatives of political parties have been invited to be in attendance to offer an informal session via a ‘market stall‘ approach after the presentation where they can provide further information in encouraging attendees to get involved. Information will also be provided for attendees interested in standing as an Independent candidate.
