Wistow Parish Council – Annual External Audit FY 25-26
Wistow Parish Council is pleased to announce the successful completion of its annual governance and financial audit process for the 2025/26 financial year.
Published: 10 August 2026
Every year, Parish & Town Councils in England are required to complete the Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR). This process ensures that councils manage public funds responsibly, comply with legislation, and maintain effective governance and financial controls.
Earlier this year, the Council’s independent Internal Auditor carried out a detailed review of the Council’s governance arrangements, financial management, risk management, and internal controls. The audit concluded that the Council has appropriate systems in place and provided the assurance required for the Council to approve its Annual Governance Statement and Accounting Statements.
Following the internal audit, the Council submitted its completed AGAR to the external auditors, PKF Littlejohn LLP, for independent review.
We are delighted to confirm that PKF Littlejohn LLP has concluded its audit and has confirmed that Sections 1 (Annual Governance Statement) and 2 (Accounting Statements) of Wistow Parish Council’s Annual Governance and Accountability Return are in accordance with Proper Practices.
Furthermore, the external auditors confirmed that no other matters have come to their attention that give cause for concern and that the Council has complied with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
This is an excellent outcome and reflects the Council’s commitment to maintaining high standards of governance, financial accountability, and transparency. It provides independent assurance that public money has been managed appropriately and that the Council is meeting the legal responsibilities expected of it.
The Council would like to thank everyone involved in the audit process, including councillors, the Internal Auditor, and the Clerk, whose work throughout the year helps ensure that the Council continues to operate effectively and in the best interests of the community.
Residents can view the completed Annual Governance and Accountability Return, Notice of Conclusion of Audit, and other financial documents on the Council’s website as part of our ongoing commitment to openness and transparency. Please visit the finance section of our website.
