Annual Governance & Accountability Return
The Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR) is a statutory document that every parish and town council in England must complete at the end of each financial year.
It demonstrates how the Council has managed its finances, fulfilled its legal responsibilities, and maintained effective governance throughout the year.
The AGAR consists of several key sections, including the Annual Governance Statement, where the Council confirms it has met its legal duties and operated in accordance with proper practices, the Accounting Statements, which summarise the Council’s financial position, and reports from the internal and external auditors.
As part of the AGAR process, residents have the legal right to inspect the Council’s accounting records during the Exercise of Public Rights period. Following completion of the external audit (where applicable), the final AGAR and associated documents are published in accordance with legal requirements.
By publishing our AGAR each year, the Parish Council demonstrates its commitment to openness, transparency, sound financial management, and accountability for the public funds entrusted to it. These documents provide assurance that the Council has followed proper governance procedures and has managed its resources responsibly on behalf of the community.
